South Dakota is a large Midwestern state, but is the fifth least populous state in the nation. Pierre may be the state capital, but Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota. Eastern South Dakota is home to very fertile land and is used to grow a variety of crops, including, but not limited to, corn, soybeans, and wheat. Cattle and hog are major agricultural components for the state as well. The service industry is the largest economic contributor in the state. Other industries include meatpacking, ethanol production, and tourism. Every year, thousands of tourists come to the state to see Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial, the Black Hills, or to have fun on the many lakes found in the area. South Dakota is truly a wonderful place, both for tourists and locals alike.
