The fifth most populous state in the United States is Illinois. Most of the state’s residents call Chicago their home. Chicago is the third most populous city in the U.S., and has 86 million visitors that embark on the city each year. Chicago is also home of many of America’s largest industries. McDonald’s, Boeing, Motorola, and United Airlines call the city home. Nestled on Lake Michigan, Chicago is also home to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Illinois is much more than just Chicago, though. The state also brings in a large amount of money due to its rich farmlands. Corn, soy, pumpkins, hog, and cattle are all big business. The “Land of Lincoln” is a diverse place. Abraham Lincoln, Grant, and Barack Obama were all elected to the presidency of the United States of America while living in Illinois. From the diversity of culture, people, and landscape, Illinois and Chicago are often considered a barometer of America.
