“Buddy, the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” This scene from the 2003 Christmas movie “Elf,” when Buddy answers his father’s phone at work, has inspired this holiday, which has been celebrated since 2008. If you’re not familiar with this cult classic Christmas movie, it’s about a baby who crawls into Santa’s sack when he’s delivering toys to an orphanage. He’s then raised as an elf at the North Pole, but learns he has a human father in New York City. Buddy travels to New York to reconnect with his father, spreading Christmas cheer along the way.
